Robert Ivy wants architects to know that there are benefits of becoming a part of the AIA. One of the benefits of joining the organization is the educational programs it offers. Along with this, there are plenty of chances to network and to build up a solid reputation by serving the organization in one way or another. The AIA offers its members a fully functional website where they can learn more about their profession, newsletters, and webinars. The AIA also holds large annual conferences, which serve to gather thousands of people with like minds and interests. A lot of networking takes place at these conferences, as well, as members are able to get to know each one another and also have access to leaders in the industry.
Robert Ivy has talked about the fact that the AIA can even help some architects to find jobs or other working opportunities. Online job boards and job fairs are also sometimes offered. Another solid reason to consider joining the AIA as an architect is that there are not as many architects in the world as there are people in other professions. By becoming a part of the organization, members join a much larger effort to give voice to the field. Robert Ivy has admitted that the advocacy organization within the AIA has been able to influence tax legislation. While an annual membership into the AIA does require a payment, it is money well spent.
